Session 4 - Wet and Webby!

Warm, wet and windy for our session today. The children were certainly glad of their waterproofs. The group decided that as the wet weather had made the grass and logs very slippy we would have to take extra care moving around.
We started the session with a game of predator and prey.
We took refuge in the outdoor classroom to have snack and during a discussion about mini-beasts and their habitats, the children observed that the outdoor classroom would be a great place to build a spider's web.

One of the group asked if we had any string so that they could build a giant web in the outdoor classroom and before we knew it, we were all involved in weaving and tying the web.
The end result was pretty amazing.
One of the children decided that no web was complete without a spider and along with another child set about scouring the grounds for things to make a spider from.
After a quick rummage through the veg patch, they returned with a gem squash, some sticks and some green beans (along with some ripe cherry tomatoes, which after a quick wash, we gobbled down).
Using a sharp stick, one child poked holes into the squash in which to feed the spider's stick legs.
A rather impressive looking spidey, I think you will agree.
Sadly, our web needed to be dismantled at the end of our session, but the children seemed to have just as much fun un-making their web as they had making it!
