Yesterday's session had a distinctly spooky theme. The children are now becoming well aware of the Forest School routine and went straight into carrying out the weather and daily site risk assessment. For our warm up activity the children worked in pairs to see who could bandage the best mummy. As well as being huge fun, it gave the children a chance to practice some of their knotting and joining techniques. The children were delighted with their efforts and jumped at the chance to call in on the Early Years centre and show off their handiwork.
After a suitably spooky snack and a spot of 'The Canterville Ghost' we moved on to moulding our clay gargoyles on the wooden posts. In class, the children have been learning all about the story of The Phantom of the Opera (including a fabulous trip to London to see the live show). The children drew comparisons between their creations and both the theatre gargoyles and the Phantom himself.
We had planned to make witches broomsticks too, but yet again, time ran away with us!
