Hedges, Houses and Who Am I?

We began our session today with a game of Who Am I?

The game is played in the fire circle. The children sit on the logs in the fire circle. One child describes an animal or insect one characteristic at a time. When the children think they know what creature is being described, they stand on their log. The person who is describing chooses one of the children standing on the log to guess the creature. If they answer incorrectly, they sit on the floor in front of the log. If the answer correctly, the describer says 'YES' and then chases the guesser around the outside of the fire circle. If the describer catches the guesser, the describer gets another turn at describing a creature. If they don't catch the guesser, then the guesser has a turn at describing.

As part of the 'My Bradford' topic in class, the children and staff have been learning to accurately draw pictures of their houses with the assistance of a local artist. Their finished artwork will be displayed in galleries around school over the coming weeks.  Outside today, we used natural materials such as twigs, pebbles and grass to create collages of our houses. The children used loppers to cut old branches to make the window and door frames.

On the theme of homes, our new hedge den is proving popular with the Forest School groups, with each group keen to add their own homely touches from log seats to tarpaulin roofs. We retired to the hedge den today for snack time and a game of UNO (new rules keep emerging each time we play which seem to lead to me losing every time!)
