Alien Conkerers

Our conker theme continued at Forest School today with the Year 4 group starting their session by reviewing the conker rules drawn up by the Year 5/6 group last week. They agreed with most of the rules but decided not to have the 'stamps' rule in their game. They also chose to allow each player five turns rather than three. Finally, the wanted to experiment with using multiple conkers on a string.

My first match was against Connaugh. I was quietly optimistic having had some practice last week. Also, my conker had had chance to harden somewhat since last week. Unfortunately, it turned out that my aim had not improved since last week and I didn't manage to hit Connaugh's conker once! Connaugh however proved to have a natural talent for the game and scored two' round the worlds' in his first few goes.

My losing streak continued against Abbie who proved to be a mean shot with a conker. I decided perhaps my talent with conkers lay down a more creative route. Having seen pictures on the internet of fellow forest schoolers conker characters, we thought it would be fun to make some of our own.

Sadiyah suggested that our conker characters could be aliens from another planet coming to conquer earth. This seemed very appropriate and we found that some old springs we had in our toolbox made great alien antennae. Once created the children looked for habitats where they thought their aliens would be comfortable. Abbie decided on a nautical theme for her alien's habitat, with a home complete with gangplank.
