Well it has certainly been a wet and windy few weeks.Where there were blankets of crisp white snow last year this year there is squelchy squishy mud. Now, although we nothing more than messing about in mud at Forest School, we also now the importance of allowing our environment time to recover from the ravages of winter. Today we chose to restrict the amount of time we spent on the grassed areas of our site and find other ways to get our creative juices flowing. We began with a warm-up game of hide and seek. It turns out that Muskan and Silvie are champion hiders, even in their brightly coloured waterproofs. Next, the children explored the possibilities of an old dolls' house that had been thrown out. They used screws to reattach the windows and collected natural materials to make furniture. Muskan wanted to make something for the birds. She used a wooden post and string to create this lovely bird perch. We hung it in the hawthorn hedging near the playground so that Muskan can check back to see if attracts any visitors. our hedgerow is particularly popular with sparrows, blackbirds and magpies. Silvie used straws, metal wire and feathers to make a fairy wand that doubled up as a feather duster. Ion chose to be our resident photographer today. As well as snapping our group posing with the fruits of their creative labours, he also captured a shot of one of the baking team depositing eggshells into our rather wiffy compost bins!
