Autumn is approaching and the woodland is bountiful

Our new groups are settling in to their autumn Forest School term. Holly group have been to Forest School before with Nursery and Reception, but this is their first term of Forest School with me. Last week we shared what was the same and what was different between their previous visits to Forest School and Forest School in Year 1.

The children said we still set out boundaries, play hide and seek and have hot chocolate. However, now we go to a different part of the wood and take different things to play with.

They were pleased to see that the horses were still in the field at the side of the woods and asked if we could bring carrots to feed them next time. We were greeted by some new animals at the entrance to the woodland, a pair of portly pigs. Jannat suggested perhaps they would like some carrots too.

Today we decided to take advantage of the ripening blackberries on the lane leading into the woods to make some natural paint. Harvey predicted the resulting paint would be purple or pink. The children used a stick to mix the berries into a paste with water, then used it to paint on fabric, paper, trees and rocks.
