Digging for Stone Shapes

This week, Hazel group have been using trowels to dig for treasure in the woodland. Our woodland is on land that has been quarried in the past leaving behind deep pits and spoil mounds. The children had great fun digging up stones of all shapes and sizes. They have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in class, so really enjoyed being able to name the shapes and describe the properties on the stones they dug up. Whilst Rehan was exploring the forest floor, he found a tree stump covered in intriguing white fronds which appeared to be some sort of fungus. Rehan was fascinated by the clouds of white spores released by the fungus as it was brushed against.
