Rock Scrambling with Willow and Holly Group

We can use ropes to help us
Which path should we take?
Within Ravenscliffe Wood are the remnants of an old millstone grit quarry. This provides the children plenty of opportunity to exercise their gross motor skills. Rock scrambling requires critical thinking and spacial awareness. In recent weeks, the children have been gradually challenging themselves to climb higher up the rocky hillside. This week, working together they navigated a path leading to the top of the hill. Realizing they could walk across the meadow at the top of the hill and down the slope the other side, they created a their very own woodland obstacle course. The children felt a real sense of achievement when they made it to the top of the hill and were keen to keep going around the circuit and challenge themselves to do it again.

We are nearly at the top

This way to the top

I can pull myself up
