With assessment week behind me and my portfolio completed and handed in, I am looking forward to tackling new things with my fabulous forest school group. This week we discussed how to use the fire area safely.
We began the session by playing the fruit salad game aimed at reinforcing the rules relating to entering, leaving and moving around the fire circle.
After explaining the campfire procedure, the children had their first go at making a spark with the fire steels. Some took longer than others but all were suitably impressed when they produced their first sparks.
We moved on to using the steel to ignite cotton wool pads. This activity proved very popular and the children are very excited at the prospect of having their first campfire next week.
