Loadsa lovely logs.

Today, the logs for the Forest School activities arrived on site. The Scots Pine logs (complete with bark) will make a handsome addition to the playground.

In a quiet corner of the field, we have built a log circle which will be the focal point for Forest School activities.
In the centre of the field, five 6 ft tree trunks have been erected to use for den building and knot tying practice.
Log stepping stones snake their way from the playground to the vegetable garden and to where the bog garden will be built in autumn.
At the opposite end of the field, six magical looking log thrones, which will eventually be enveloped by a mini broadleaf forest.
The new additions to the playground have drawn a great deal of interest from the children, parents and staff alike.
Finally, a big pile of tree branches were salvaged from the building site where the new access road to the playground is being installed. There were maple, bay and laurel branches so the maple and bay were sorted and moved to the top corner of the field near the log circle. The bigger branches will be great for making a boundary around the fire pit and constructing mallets and rolling pins. The smaller branches will be stored for fuel for the fire. In the meantime, they will make a welcome mini beast habitat.

There some useful guides as how to incorporate logs into your play environment described here on the Forestry Commission website:
